Summer Missions
Where will you serve God this summer?
What is the Summer Missions Team?
The Summer Missions Team (SMT) is made up of young adults who help facilitate daily camp operations during our weeks of children and youth camps in the summer. SMT’s tasks consist of facilitating operations in the following areas:

SMT’s are instrumental in making campers experience a success. Through their serving and hospitality, they are able to eliminate distractions so that all who come to camp are able to focus fully on the purpose for which they are here: to know Jesus and to grow in relationship with Him. SMT’s are also responsible for contributing to the positive, energetic, and adventurous atmosphere of summer camp!

FAQ
Still have questions about the Summer Missions Team? Here are some of the most common questions and answers about being an SMT.
What is the age/grade requirement?
17 and up is the preferred age for applicants. We do allow 15 and 16-year-olds to apply but due to the nature of the work, prefer those who are 17 and older.
What does a camp day look like for an SMT member?
SMT’s serve and clean up in the dining hall, work with churches during rec games, facilitate activities, lifeguard, and prepare facilities through cleaning. SMT’s are the first and last point of contact for most campers. We want our campers to have a great time and the SMT’s are what make it happen!
While no two days at camp are the same, an activity day schedule might look like this for an SMT:
7:00 AM- Breakfast & Devotion
7:30 AM- Ready to serve the group Breakfast
8:00 AM- 9:30 AM- Serve Breakfast and Clean up
9:30 AM-11:00 AM- Break time or Special Projects
11:00 AM- Staff Lunch
11:30 AM- Ready to Serve Group Lunch
12:00-1:30 PM- Serve Lunch and Clean Up
2:00-5:30 PM- Break Time, Activities, or Special Projects
5:30-6:45 PM- Serve Dinner and clean up
6:45 PM- Staff Dinner
7:30-9:30 PM- Off Time, Snack Shack, Gift Shop, or evening activities
I am taking online classes. Can I still apply?
Yes! We work with our SMT’s to ensure they have time to complete summer coursework. School is extremely important and we want you to be successful in your studies!
How many weeks is this for?
Our summer is 10-11 weeks long, depending on the orientation and group schedules. We start orientation the weekend of Memorial Day and usually end the first full week in August.
What if I cannot work the whole summer?
We are willing to work with you to see what dates out of the summer you need off! We have many who are away from Plains Baptist during their own churches week of summer camp, where the SMT participates as a camper. We also have SMT’s who go on family vacation or a mission trip during the summertime and we give them time off for such occasions too. If you are not free the entire summer, don’t let that keep you from applying! We would love to still have you apply and we can address time off request on a case-by-case basis.
What's included?
SMT’s are provided onsite housing, meals, work shirts, certifications/training, and paid for the days they work.
